February 26, 2010- Debra Heimler Benefit at Dinos Lounge, Saturday, March 27.
MUSIC BENEFIT STAGED FOR DEBRA HEIMLER
A benefit to help with medical expenses for Debra Heimler
Debra was diagnosed with a rare medical condition recently, doctors at the Cleveland Clinic describe as “Pectus Exacavatum”. It is a curving of the rib cage and sternum that puts pressure on your heart causing the patient to feel light headed, dizzy, fatigued, and causing pooling of the blood in the patient’s lower extremities. Debra was unable to walk up a flight of stairs without stopping to catch her breath. It is a rare deformity and in most cases goes unfixed. On Tuesday, February 16, Debra had surgery performed where the doctors placed two bars in her chest that lifted her sternum and rib cage off her heart. The operation was successful, allowing Deb’s heart to now beat normal. There is a six month recovery after surgery and Deb has been off work since August, 2009, collecting minimal compensation. The cost of the operation is in the area of $100,000, with the insurance covering most of it, but leaving Debra responsible for $10,000 of the cost.
There will be a benefit to help Debra with her medical expenses on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Dino’s Lounge, 22740 Woodward Avenue, Ferndale Michigan, 48220. The phone number at Dinos is (248) 591-3466. Dinos website is www.dinoslounge.com
There will be live music from Tom Butwin (Acoustic), Light In August (Rock), Black Cat Blues Band (Blues), and The Other White Meat (Rock), as well as other special musical guests. There will also be raffles and a 50/50 drawing with a $10 donation at the door.
The event begins at 7:00 PM with the first musical act to go on at 8:00 PM.
December 22, 2009- Rehearsals going well with the Black Cat Blues Band
The band has been rehearsing at The Cathouse in anticipation for their 2010 dates. Three have been announced and there will be more coming shortly. The band has changed up the song list somewhat adding some new, popular blues cuts from the likes of The John Mayer Trio, The Beatles, and Tracy Chapman just to name a few. They have also added one of Tom Butwin's original songs and there is speculation of another Black Cat Blues Band original tune to be added shortly.
The bands first show of 2010 will be at Dino's Lounge in Ferndale on Thursday, February 4 as part of the Ferndale Blues Festival, an event that the band is returning to after last years successful performance.
